Mandatory Credit: David Gonzales-Imagn Images The San Francisco 49ers signed Eddy Pineiro as their new kicker on Wednesday after waiving Jake Moody.
The Niners moved on from Moody after he missed two field goals in the season opener. A third-round draft pick in 2023, he missed a 27-yard try in the second quarter and had a 36-yarder blocked in the third quarter of Sunday's 17-13 win at Seattle.
Pineiro, 29, worked out for the Niners before he was signed. He previously worked with San Francisco special teams coordinator Brant Boyer while kicking for the New York Jets in 2021.
Pineiro spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, making 80 of 90 field-goal attempts and 80 of 87 extra-point tries.
In 32 career games, the 25-year-old Moody has made 74.2 percent of his field goals (46 of 62) and 97.9 percent of his PATs (94 of 96).
Moody set a Super Bowl record with a 55-yarder against Kansas City in Super Bowl LVIII, only to see Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker break the mark with a 57-yarder later in the game.
The 49ers (1-0) visit the New Orleans Saints (0-1) on Sunday.
