Sandoval visibly reacted after walking Shohei Ohtani in the third inning. He attempted to shake his arm and tried to flex his elbow as manager Ron Washington and a trainer hurried to the mound.
The discussion was brief and Sandoval departed and was replaced by Hunter Strickland.
Sandoval gave up no runs, two hits, two walks and struck out one in his 16th start of the season. He entered the game with a 2-8 record and 5.24 ERA.
He is 19-45 with a 4.03 ERA in his six-year career, all with the Angels.
