Associated Press Issues Correction For "Gay" Nets Jerseys Note
On Friday, the Nets debuted gray alternate jerseys in a game against the Celtics. On Saturday, in the notes section at the bottom of the game recap, the AP reported that the "Nets debuted an alternate gay, short-sleeve, V-neck home jersey with Brooklyn across the chest in blue lettering." Whoops.
In a March 22 story about the Brooklyn Nets' victory over Boston, The Associated Press mischaracterized the alternate jersey the Nets debuted. It is gray, not gay.
This typo was exacerbated, obviously, because Jason Collins, the first openly-gay NBA player, was wearing one of those jerseys Friday night. There was no malice intended; it's not like the AP was using "gay" derogatorily, they just forgot the "R" in "gray," making for one of the more humorously hat-in-hand corrections you'll see.
