Blake Griffin To Have Surgery To Remove Staph Infection
The Clippers announced today that power forward Blake Griffin will be having surgery to remove a staph infection in his right elbow. Griffin is flying back to Los Angeles today, and should have the surgery on Monday.
There's no official word on how long Griffin will be out, the team is only saying that he will be re-evaluated after the all-star break, but ESPN's Ramona Shelburne is reporting that he's expected to miss four to six weeks.
Staph infections are no joke—David Lee had one in his left elbow in 2010 and almost lost a chunk of his triceps muscle because of it—and it's not exactly clear how Griffin got this one. Although no direct connection has yet been made, a lot of NBA reporters are bringing up the fact that Griffin has bursitis in his right elbow and recently had it drained.
