Mandatory Credit: Katie Stratman-Imagn Images The Milwaukee Brewers placed closer Trevor Megill on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain on Wednesday.
Megill is enjoying the best season of his five-year career. He is tied for third in the National League with 30 saves and is also sporting a career-low 2.54 ERA.
The 6-foot-8 right-hander has made a career high 49 appearances and fanned 58 batters in 46 innings. But he had shown cracks of late, blowing saves in three of his last four opportunities, including on Sunday in a 4-3 loss to San Francisco.
Megill informed reporters that he underwent an MRI on Tuesday and it revealed a "mild" Grade 1 strain.
"Nothing too serious," Megill said. "We've been grinding through it for the last week, and 34 pitches the other day ‘wasn't it.' So we're taking a step back and get this right for the postseason."
Abner Uribe (2-1, 3 saves, 1.71 ERA) is expected to get most of the closing calls from manager Pat Murphy.
The Brewers made two other pitching moves on Wednesday. They acquired recently-released pitcher Erick Fedde and signed him to a one-year contract.
They also scratched starter Quinn Priester (11-2, 3.44), who has been dealing with a minor wrist injury, from Wednesday's game vs. Arizona.
Reliever Aaron Ashby made the start and Fedde entered the game in the third inning.
