Draymond Green's Mom Interrupts Interview To Tell Him He's An All-Star
Warriors forward Draymond Green sat down for a regular old interview with CSN Bay Area yesterday afternoon, when a familiar voice came on the line. It was his mother, Mary Babers-Green, with some exciting news: Green had been chosen to the West’s all-star reserves.
Green said he had to fight back tears, but it might have been toughest on Babers-Green, who had to wait a whole week for this. ESPN had lined her up to tell her son that he was voted an all-star starter, but he missed out by only about 50,000 votes. The plan had to be scrapped until it was resurrected by the Warriors’ media relations guy, who set up yesterday’s surprise.
“It was exciting because I knew how excited Dray would be,” said Babers-Green by phone. “But I had to keep it a secret, and that was the hard part, because Dray and I talk about everything. This has been one of his lifelong dreams. I lived this with him since he first proclaimed it. So just to see him live that dream and give the news to him was really fun. I thought I could hear him crying. I think he was full of tears.”
Later in the day, Green spoke to TNT about the news. There he revealed that it was difficult to keep his emotions in check, but he knew he had to do it because—I shit you not— he didn’t want to end up a meme like Crying MJ.
