Four Adults Indicted In Connection With Steubenville Rape Case
A grand jury investigating the 2012 rape of a teenage girl in Steubenville, Ohio, has indicted four members of the Steubenville community for the parts they played in covering up the rape. The most serious charges were brought against school superintendent Michael McVey, who faces one charge of tampering with evidence and two counts of obstruction of justice.
Elementary school principal Lynette Gorman and wrestling coach Seth Fluharty were both charged with failure to report child abuse, which is a misdemeanor crime. A volunteer assistant football coach, Mike Bellardine, was charged with four misdemeanors: allowing underage drinking, obstruction of official business, making a false statement, and contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child.
The grand jury has now indicted five people in connection with the case since Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond were convicted in March of raping an unconscious teen girl. In October, the Steubenville school district's director of information technology was also indicted by the grand jury.
All four of the newly indicted individuals are set to appear in court on December 6. According to Attorney General Mike DeWine, the grand jury has concluded its investigation.
