Kirk Herbstreit Says Washington Should Be Thanking ESPN For Airing Their Games
College GameDay’s Kirk Herbstreit responded to Chris Petersen’s complaints about late-night Huskies kickoff times today, saying the Washington head coach should be thanking the Worldwide Leader for airing their games at all.
The Huskies are one of the nation’s most exciting teams, but have yet to kick off before 8 p.m. Eastern yet this year; ESPN has slotted the sixth-ranked squad for 10:45 p.m. Eastern kickoffs, rendering Washington viewing fodder for only the most dedicated East coasters. That’s led Petersen to be vocal in his complaints, stating that fans and players alike would prefer to start games at 1 p.m. local time—like the majority of schools.
Herbstreit, meanwhile, took a jab at the Pac-12 Network—still unavailable to DirecTV subscribers—and sounded more like a mob enforcer than a commentator while claiming to be an “advocate” for the conference as a whole, though little evidence to support that claim exists.
