Martellus Bennett Said His Coach Reminds Him Of Willy Wonka
Martellus Bennett seems like a lot of fun. On Tuesday, Jay Cutler's new favorite target went on the radio and compared his head coach to Willy Wonka. Specifically, he said Marc Trestman reminded him of Gene Wilder's Wonka, not version 17 of the Depp-Burton-face-powder collabo.
"I always say Coach Trestman reminds me of the first Willy Wonka. Not the Johnny Depp one. The Johnny Depp one was really cool, but the first one before that, the 1943 version." Actually, the adaptation Bennett referred to is the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder. Depp starred in another adaptation of the movie in 2005. "He's a genius," Bennett said of Trestman. "A lot of times when you're around really, really smart people, you don't really understand them. "I thought Willy Wonka was brilliant. He had all kinds of candy. Who doesn't like chocolate and candies? Everybody wanted a Gobstopper. I just think he's brilliant."
I...completely understand this point. Who doesn't want chocolate and candies? It is genius. Trestman—or should I say Slugworth—doesn't really get the compliment, though, only recognizing Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory as a Johnny Depp film.
Apart from that bit of pop culture recall, Trestman actually said "[b]ut I don't have any comment." No comment on being compared to a fictional chocolatier. Got it, coach. Anything else? "[Bennett] loves football and he wants to get better every day, and who could ask for more?"
Augustus Gloop, that's who—ah, forget it.
