MLB Puts Hunter Strickland's Brawl-Worn Jersey Up For Auction, Then Backs Off
Via auctions.mlb.com A few weeks after suspending Hunter Strickland six games for his brawl with Bryce Harper, MLB tried to directly spin a profit from the fight—selling off his game-worn jersey on the league’s official online auction site, advertising the fact that he was ejected while wearing it. And then a few hours before bidding was set to close, they changed their minds.
A screenshot of the initial listing can be seen above, with “ejected from the game after fighting with Bryce Harper” in the item’s name and bidding up to $1,500. But less than two hours before the auction was set to end, at 11 p.m. EDT tonight, MLB changed course—removing that description from the title and shutting down bidding early with a notice that the winning bidder had put up $200. (Though, confusingly, also a line stating that there had been zero bids for it.)
Via auctions.mlb.com While the league put up several of these Memorial Day jerseys up for auction, there’s sadly no way to see who would have gotten the highest marks in a rematch of the fight here, as there was no gear listed from the Nationals.
