Player Forced To Officiate Girls' Soccer Match After Sexist Comments To Female Ref
Kerem Demirbay of German second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf was having a good game a couple weeks ago, notching two goals before accumulating his second yellow card. Upset about the card, he told female ref Bibi Steinhau that women had no place in soccer before leaving the field. For this, his club came up with an unusual punishment.
Düsseldorf immediately fined Demirbay €10,000 for his remarks, and the midfielder later apologized to Steinhau both in person and publicly. And while he still faces a potential suspension by the league, the club also made him referee a girls’ game, which he complied with this weekend.
The picture above and more like can be found over on the club’s Facebook page. Demirbay must’ve known the cameras were going to be there, since he was looking way more dapper than was necessary:
Justice, the German way.
