Police Probe Wheelchair-Bound Brazil Fans Standing At World Cup

According to the Brazilian police are investigating images of supposedly wheelchair-bound fans leaping to their feet during the World Cup's opening match in São Paulo.

The photo above started making the rounds on Twitter, and there are reportedly CCTV images of other fans standing and cheering during Brazil's win over Croatia last week. It's not hard to guess how this might have happened. Any Brazil match is going to be sold out, with the last available seats those set aside for people with disabilities. (A Brazilian law requires that one percent of stadium capacity be devoted to the disabled. And, not a minor thing, they cost half that of a regular seat.)

The fans' possible defense is that soccer can be really, really exciting, perhaps miraculously so. After all, these older photos show that the sport has been healing the lame for a while.
