Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen underwent successful shoulder surgery and will be out of action for a period of five to six months, the club announced Tuesday.

Steffen, 31, was acquired from English Premier League side Manchester City in January 2024.

He began his pro career with the Columbus Crew (2017-19) and was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018.

Before being impacted by injuries this season, Steffen had started nine games and recorded two shutouts. In six MLS seasons, he has recorded 37 clean sheets in 162 appearances across all competitions.

Nico Hansen is expected to handle the No. 1 goalkeeper duties when the MLS season resumes next month following the break for the World Cup.
