Report: David Price Is Going To The Red Sox, For So Much Money
The stove’s hot: David Price is going to the Red Sox for a buttload of cash, according to Pete Abraham of the .
The team and Price reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $217-million deal, which makes the lefty the highest-paid MLB pitcher ever. (Clayton Kershaw’s deal, at seven years for $215 million, is now second-highest.) New president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski had Price on his roster when the two were with the Detroit Tigers. (Price was traded to the Blue Jays on July 30; the Tigers fired Dombrowski on Aug. 4.)
Just yesterday, Peter Gammons’s sources hinted at Price going to the NL with a city he likes. Price’s former teammates must have misinterpreted his desires.
Update (5:46 p.m.): Price will reportedly have an opt-out clause which he can use after the first three years of his contract.
