The Knicks won the NBA's third ever in-season tournament with a 124-113 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Las Vegas.
While the team is planning to celebrate the accomplishment with fans at an upcoming home game, they will not remember it in perpetuity inside of their home arena.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the first in-season tournament title in 2023, while the Milwaukee Bucks won the event last season. Both teams decided to hang banners to memorialize the accomplishment.
New York (18-7) is tied for the fourth-best record in the NBA heading into play Wednesday, while also sitting as the second-best team in the Eastern Conference, 2 1/2 games behind the Detroit Pistons.
The Knicks last won an NBA championship in 1973, while finishing as runner-up twice since then in 1994 and 1999. After missing the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons from 2014-20, they have reached the postseason in four of the past five seasons, including a spot in the Eastern Conference finals last season.
