Avila announced on social media Saturday he had committed to play for Josh Schertz and the Billikens in 2024-25.
"I will be committing to the Saint Louis University," Avila told "The Field of 68" podcast. "I will be going there to play under Josh Schertz again. I trusted his path for me the last two years and trust what he has planned for me these next few years. I'm excited to get over there and do the same thing we did at Indiana State, win some games."
Avila and the other four ISU starters entered the transfer portal after Schertz left Terre Haute, Ind.
Avila was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team. A 6-foot-10, 240-pound center, Avila starred for the Sycamores (32-7) in averaging 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game over 37 starts.
The Sycamores missed the NCAA Tournament after losing to Drake in the Missouri Valley championship game, but they received a No. 1 seed in the NIT. They won four games before falling 79-77 to Seton Hall in the title game.
