Raymond James Stadium also hosted the game in January 2017, when Clemson defeated Alabama 35-31 for the championship.
Atlanta (2018, 2025), New Orleans (2020, 2028) and Miami Gardens (2021, 2026) are also on the schedule to be two-time host cities. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., has this season's title contest on Jan. 19 between the winners of the Fiesta and Peach bowl games, which serve as the semifinals.
"We are excited to bring the College Football Playoff National Championship back to Tampa Bay in 2029," CFP executive director Rich Clark said. "The city has established itself as an exceptional host for world-class sporting events, and its vibrant downtown, beautiful waterfront, and proven commitment to excellence make it an ideal setting for college football's greatest night.
"We look forward to partnering with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission and local leaders to deliver a national championship experience worthy of college football's biggest stage."
Raymond James Stadium is the home field for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and host site of the annual Reliaquest Bowl, which is Dec. 31.
The first CFP national title game was in 2015 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, following the 2014 season. Other cities to have hosted once are Glendale, Ariz. (2016); Santa Clara, Calif. (2019); Indianapolis (2022); Inglewood, Calif. (2023); and Houston (2024). Las Vegas's Allegiant Stadium is the site for the 2027 game.
