This Should Quiet Those Stupid "True Yankee" Questions
This faithful little guttersnipe is Gerrit Cole, pictured here at the tender age of 11 attending the 2001 World Series, who this week was selected as the Yankees first-round pick. Yesterday capped a pretty good week for Cole, as the Bombers returned to .500, where they seems to be teetering lately, with a 12-11 Yankees win over the Royals. Johnny Damon had the first 6-hit performance ever by a Yankee in Yankee Stadium. Glad they got that out of the way before they close the place down. Jose Guillen had a solid performance in a losing effort, homering twice and driving in seven runs. And Andy Pettitte pitched remarkably well for a guy who gave up 10 runs. Joe Crede Is The Life Of The Pants Party: The Pale Hoser socked two three-run homers, marking his second straight two-homer game. According to the AP write-up, "During a session in the batting cage, hitting coach Greg Walker told Crede to separate his hands from his body. And the advice just made sense." So stub-armed is definitely the way to go, young hitters.
Cody Ross Delivers For Large-For-The-Marlins Crowd: Ken Griffey's lengthy 600th homer tease attracted the third largest crowd for the Marlins this year, a robust 25,289 fans. Instead they were treated to a walkoff homer by Cody Ross, who has now 11 homers in 119 at-bats, to beat the Reds 8-7. Winslow doth praise!
Nats Being Natty: Yup, those sluggers of Southeast mustered a whole four hits against Jonathan Sanchez and the Giants, losing 6-0. When does Ryan Zimmerman get off the DL again?
