Tiger Woods Misses Cut In Back-To-Back Majors For First Time
Tiger Woods missed the cut at The Open by seven strokes after shooting a second round 75 Saturday. It’s the second straight major championship Woods has failed to reach the end of, the first time in his career he’s missed the cut at consecutive majors.
Woods actually shot one stroke better Saturday than he did in Round 1, but it was nowhere near enough to keep him in the field at St. Andrews, where he has won twice previously. Woods’s struggles have been wide-ranging in his last two majors. At the U.S. Open, he sprayed the ball all over the course. At St. Andrews, Woods’s game fell apart nearly every time he put the driver away and pulled out a different club.
With his latest poor performance, Woods will no longer be ranked in the world’s top 250. He’ll have a couple more chances to make some noise this season, perhaps most notably at the PGA Championship, but for most people, Woods has probably lost the benefit of the doubt.
