Mandatory Credit: D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images New York Yankees captain and star outfielder Aaron Judge is day-to-day with a bone bruise on his upper right rib.
Judge is out of the lineup for the first time this season when the Yankees begin a homestand Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians. Jose Caballero will start in his place in right field.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters pregame that right shoulder soreness had been "nagging" Judge for weeks and he went for imaging. Doctors located the bone bruise on his rib and determined that was causing Judge to feel shoulder soreness on that side.
The three-time American League MVP is tied with Ben Rice for the team lead in home runs (17) and has 10 doubles, 38 RBIs and five stolen bases while batting .248 through 59 games. Judge's batting average is his lowest since he went .179 in 27 games as a new big-leaguer in 2016.
An All-Star each of the last five years, and seven times overall, Judge is a career .291 hitter with 385 homers, 868 RBIs, 213 doubles and 70 stolen bases in 1,204 games with the Yankees.
